Knots with ribbon and a finished card

Yesterday on one of my lists I shared a tip that I learned over the weekend from a class I went to. I am not the inventor nor do I know if the class instructor, Larry DuShane; was the inventor of this tip. I am just sharing cause I think it is a nifty way to conserve some ribbon and not stress of the fact i am using so much that is unseen! LOL I will share at the end of the post the finished card using this tip.

Step One:
Cut your length(s) of Ribbon.

In this picture they are a little over 10" long and I am using 2 as that was how the card was for the class. You can use as few or as many as you want though!

Step Two:
Tie the ribbon(s) in a knot or bow so it looks something like this.


Step Three:

You have to decide if you want your knot/bow at the top, middle or bottom of the card front or layer you are going to put it on.

I want mine nearer to the top of this one as you can see so I will be cutting the circle apart not directly across from the knot I tied but shorter on one side.

Step Four:
This si how the cut ribbon looks now - see how there are short tails of excess ribbon and long tails of excess ribbon so my knot will sit closer to one edge of the card.


Step Five:
using your adhesive of choice adhere the ribbon to the card front/layer you are creating, making sure the knot/bow and ribbon is placed how you want. I wanted both colors of ribbon to show so I made mine "v" out.

Now flip over the card stock and adhere the ends of the tails to the back to secure it.

look at that white space now instead of ribbon left unseen it is just the back of the card stock LOL! I can live with that, how about you?

Here is the final card. We did some techniques with Copic Markers in the class and this was one of the cards we did. The stamp is from Stacy Stamps - sorry I don't know the name of it. The coloring is done with Copics direct to rubber and then Copic blending solution was used to get the watercolor effect. In the above pictures I did the auto photo correction in my PSP but it made things really dark, below is more accurately what the card looks like with softer colors - sorry about the shadowing on it, I don't have good lighting in my room today :(
